Day 1a Completed
Jonathan Roberts had a day on the felt that most poker players can only dream of on his way to bagging up the massive chip lead on Day 1a of the 1,100 888poker Live Manchester Main Event.
Roberts went on a rush of eliminations and big pots as he built up a stack of around 450,000 at one point during the day. A few late hits dropped him to 376,500 to end the night, but still far away the chip leader of the three players who managed to survive the day.
Roberts day began when he cracked Stephen Cherrys aces on the river. He then picked up aces against Craig Rimmers queens to earn a double up that put him into the chip leader. He busted Oliver Hutchins by spiking a flush on the river to beat top two pair, hit a queen to crack Lin Chens eights to hit the 300,000 milestone, then rivered trips to bust Leslie Kearney and pull clear of the field.

Leslie Kearney raised to 5,500 under the gun, Jonathan Roberts three-bet to 16,000 in the small blind, and Kearney called.
The flop came A?5?3? and Roberts continued for 12,000. Kearney called and the K? fell on the turn. Roberts then bet 27,000 and Kearney called.
The 5? fell on the river and Roberts tossed out enough to put Kearney all in. Kearney quickly called for his last 70,000 with A?Q?, but Roberts showed Q?5? for rivered trips to win the massive pot and send Kearney to the rail.
"You probably weren't going to pass, anyway. I'm surprised it wasn't a spade," Kearney told him on his way to the exit.
Zhicheng Miao recently fired his fifth bullet of the day.
